ANIMAL RULES

GAme RULES

1. Act realistic. Follow your profile to the best of your ability, and group limits, profile notes, and tags must be followed entirely. Other actors are allowed to react by rejecting, chasing away or killing those who act unrealistically within the hunting or challenge rules. Actors should not accept a mate that does not follow the courting section of the profiles. This includes, but not limited to:

  • Clipping/phasing through other dinos due to a lack of hitbox.

  • Spam crouching, testing damage, using mechanics in an unrealistic manner for convenience

  • Carrying your egg to prevent it from being snatched by a carnivore. (Does not apply to relocating your nest.)

  • Ignoring territorial threats/threat displays.

  • Jumping through/over dinosaurs that results in major clipping at any point of the jump. - Using mechanics in an unrealistic manner.

  • Sleeping during combat will forfeit the hunt or challenge for the entire group.

  • Eating healing/comfort items during combat.

These examples are only towards unrealistic actions that are done purposefully to ruin immersion, mistakes happen and do not need to be reported if the actor corrects themselves. Before making a report, please make them aware using in-game DMs if possible.

2. Do your best to create a realistic skin that matches the environment your species lives in. Other dinosaurs can reject a potential mate, abandon the care of their young or shun group members if their skin is unnatural to that species and provide little camouflage. This is because it may draw predators, ruin hunts or may carry unhealthy genes. This includes mutations such as Albinism. a. Neon colours include bright colors over the majority of the body. Male crests may be neon, but the whole body cannot. b. Shunning involves avoiding social and physical contact, low hierarchy in a group, bullying from food or comfort, and in extreme cases being chased out of a group. Game, Combat, Challenge and Hunting rules must still be followed.

3. Adoption is when a sub-adult dinosaur or older, if group limits and profile permit, allows an unrelated hatchling/juvenile to join their legal in-game group as a Herbivore or Piscivore. Carnivores should not adopt unless their profile allows it. They are to be treated as members of the herd, pack or flock, not as offspring. ‎

4. Herbivores should not corpse guard and avoid conflict whenever possible, only attacking when provoked, if another animal is ignoring their threats or showing signs of being threatening a. Parasaurolophus should not spam their ability unless the carnivore is a threat or may become one. Once a carnivore is highlighted, they do not need to highlight it further if it is not showing signs of being threatening.
b. Herbivores and omnivores not directly involved in the defense of themselves or a herdmate should make an active effort to flee from line of sight of hunts. Territorial or nesting herbivores and omnivores can remain in line of sight but should actively distance themselves and their offspring from the hunt or challenge.

5. Dinosaurs should not court or mate outside of their active schedule. They also must not initiate a hunt against subadults or adults outside their active schedule. They may build nests or hatch at any time. Players may initiate challenges for food or defend their own territory at any time.
Day = Sky is visible and is daytime.
Night = Sky is clearly visible and night, may be starry.

a. If the sky is not visible due to being inside a cave or weather that entirely obscures the sky, players follow Cathemeral behaviors b. All juveniles and hatchlings may hunt at any time, regardless of schedule. Juveniles and hatchlings may also be hunted at any time. c. All Small classed dinosaurs or smaller may be hunted at any time.

6. Territorial dinosaurs may only claim territory including their native habitat (Aquatic, Terrestrial, or Semi-Aquatic) displayed in their profile and should establish a territory before nesting.

a. The territory must be actively maintained by patrolling, chasing out intruders, and marking the perimeter with various dropped objects.
b. If a neighbouring territory owner accidentally trespasses the borders, it is on you to chase them out and establish those borders to reduce conflict.
c. If all members of the group vacate the territory or log off, then that area is considered unclaimed until the previous owner returns or a new territorial dinosaur claims it.
d. Territorial dinosaurs may challenge each other over territory ownership. Nomadic dinosaurs cannot issue challenges for territory but may issue challenges for personal space or resources.
e. Territorial herbivores must allow carnivores to pick up or finish unclaimed gore (any colour) before chasing them out.

7. Dinosaur ages are as follows:
Hatchling (Growth: 0.1-0.39)
Juvenile (Growth: 0.4-0.999)
Sub-Adult (Growth: 1.0-1.199)
Adult (Growth: 1.2-1.6)

8. Only one Large Aquatic above sub-adult age (1.0+) may enter freshwater sources. If they are in a group, they must split up. If another Aquatic is in the freshwater source, they must challenge for hunting rights.

9. Herbivores should only group with their own species unless they have the Herder tag or a "herds with:" list.

1. Local chat should not be used beyond the following exceptions:

  • To ask for a name ONCE for non-combat rule breaks. Logs can be checked if no answer is given.

  • To send a single "." if a player is struggling to join group via the E method.

  • To inform a player that you are a fresh spawn/not the right age to be hunted.

  • To inform that gore is present during a hunt and reachable for the hunter/s and visible by sight.

  • Asking for age. Reply in DMs.

  • To specify for what you are challenging for in a concise, single word message such as "Gore," "Territory," or "Mate"

2. Carnivores and Omnivores can claim one gore per pack member. This means staying near or carrying the gore. There may only beone player gore per group. Herbivores cannot guard or stay near gores.

a. Scavenger class dinosaurs do not claim gores. Instead, they may steal from already claimed gores at their own risk of being attacked. They should not hunt if they are aware of an unclaimed gore present and must stay with the gore of any players they kill.

3. During the time players are in the area of a Deity Statue, they may not be hunted, killed, or challenged. Players may not abuse this, and must always leave the area within 2 minutes.

a. Do not prevent others from using the statues or guard them.
b. Players may not nest near the Deity Statues.
c. Players may not approach Deity Statues while being actively hunted or challenged.
d. Players may only use the Deity Statues once every thirty (30) minutes.

4. Apex profiles have specific rules attached to them to ensure a more balanced ecosystem.
a. Players may not have more than two (2) total apexes at any one time, dead or alive. Actors may have one apex that is freely spawned in or nested in, with their second slot being nest-in only. Lead Actors may have two apexes that are either spawned in or nested in.
b. Actors cannot revive their apex creatures, but may reincarnate them freely. Lead Actors may revive or reincarnate their apexes.
c. Players cannot have two of the same apexes.
d. Randomly generated, reincarnated dinosaurs, and abandoned eggs count towards the spawned in slot and cannot be used for a nested in slot for apexes.

5. Players may utilize the resurrection system to bring back their dinosaurs.

a. Reviving an apex creature that was slain as a result of a strike results in another strike and the permanent deletion of the player’s apexes.
b. Only Lead Actors may revive their apexes.

6. Players may utilize the reincarnation system to reincarnate their dinosaurs. The resulting dinosaur is not related to any existing dinosaur.

a. All dinosaurs may be reincarnated freely.

7. Do not exploit. Examples include:

  • Using exploits to deny food.

  • Clipping through rocks or the floor to hide, bite or drink.

  • Clipping through a dinosaur to attack the dinosaur behind.

  • Using an alt account/dinosaur slot to feed yourself or to scout the location of other players. (This includes switching dino and returning to the same area within 45 minutes.)

  • Using the Mosasaurus grab to exploit broken collision; eg. Grabbing a large Apato and putting it in a tunnel it shouldn't fit/can't get out.

  • Scouting for location/information by communicating with other species, other channels or metagaming.

  • Using Para Z call or Megalo Identify through walls.

  • Deliberately finding and using loopholes within the rules for personal gain.

8. The dueling system should not be used for hunts, challenges, or fights between different species no matter the age. However, it can be used for playfighting or practicing among juveniles/hatchlings (herbivores, piscivores, and carnivores) and their parents/group (piscivores and carnivores only) members.

Notable calls:

1 call = Used to indicate territory before challenging to chase another animal out.
2 call = Used to end any instance of combat.
3 call = Used to initiate a challenge and show you are willing to fight over food, space or breeding rights.

1. All dinosaurs are allowed to react with self defense and must stop actively attacking if the attacker backs off; however, a 2-call does not guarantee safety. The 2-calling party must get one body length away from their opposition for combat to end.

a. Young dinosaurs calls will count for hunts and challenges. If they are a risk for prematurely calling and ending a fight, parents should leave them where they are unable to interfere such as far away from the area of the fight.

2. Be fair to each other in combat. This means no killing for sport, mass killing, spawn killing, mix packing or combat logging. Players shouldn't join the server to intervene in an ongoing hunt or start a hunt/challenge within 5 minutes of joining the server.

a. KFS = hunt or kill without needing food; i.e., being visibly overweight, having a gore, or hunting a player with a gore. Killing a dinosaur under the effect of a shrine.
b. Mass killing = purposefully killing multiple targets at once without needing to.
c. Spawn killing = killing a freshly spawned player knowingly, without a scent, as they do not drop gores. Baby snatchers may freely hunt dinosaurs without scent. Spawning in is different from logging in, as spawning is the creation of a new character whereas logging in is a pre-existing character.
d. Combat logging = logging out during active combat, actively being chased or whilst bleeding.
e. Mix Packing = Supporting a separate or ungrouped species through protection, hunting with, or feeding.

3. Herbivores and Omnivores have general protection rules depending on their tags.

a. Monogamous dinosaurs of any class may protect their current mate alongside their offspring in any scenario.
b. Polygamous dinosaurs can always protect themselves and offspring in any scenario. Females of the species can protect all hatchlings and juveniles in the group, regardless of relation, while following their fear list.
c. Besides the above cases, Unless they are classed as Small or Tiny, Belligerent herbivores/omnivores may protect only one member of the same species in a hunt at a time and cannot have multiple members defending them. Small or Tiny Belligerent animals may defend multiple group members.
d. Unless they are classed as Small or Tiny, Defensive herbivores/omnivores can protect all same species members that are within a body-length distance of each other but cannot go out of their way to help a hunted target unless those targets come to them. Small or Tiny Defensive animals may defend multiple group members.

4. No Tail-Riding, this means chasing behind another dinosaur while attacking them where they are unable to attack you. Instead, we promote hit-and-run tactics for any means of combat.

a. You may only land up to 5 successful hits and no more while tail-riding. After 5 successful hits, you must break off and make another attempt.
b. This does not apply to Aquatics, Flyers, or players who are lying down in any combat situation. This does not apply to Saichania, who can turn in place. If you are lying down, you are no longer protected by tail riding rules.

c. This still applies to Semi-Aquatics. This still applies to Apato at the base of their tail.

5. Terrestrial dinosaurs cannot swim out to the sea to escape a hunt if you have been bitten. As an aquatic creature, you cannot beach yourself deep inland if you have been bitten. This rule does not affect semi-aquatic dinosaurs who can traverse both environments.

a. If a terrestrial creature is using water to avoid hunters during a hunt, a semi-aquatic or aquatic predator may attack the terrestrial creature while it is in water without challenging for the hunt.
b. If an aquatic creature is using land to avoid hunters during a hunt, a semi-aquatic or terrestrial predator may attack the aquatic creature while it is on land without challenging for the hun
t.

1. A 3-call must always be made before attacking another animal over food, territory, mating rights, or personal space. Scavengers do not have to 3-call if they are stealing scraps but do have to 3-call if they want rights to the entire gore.

a. If the other dinosaur has been given a chance to respond or continues to ignore the threats, they may be attacked. This also applies to Scavengers found by an unclaimed gore.
b. Terrestrial and Aquatic animals do not have to challenge for a gore or territory that is outside their environment (Land/Water).
c. Challengers get to choose what to challenge for, be it gore, territory, etc.
d. Only those who have heard the initiating 3-call may participate in the challenge. Those who have not heard it may not join after the challenge has started.
e. Challenges for gore may only be initiated if any unclaimed, reachable red gore visible by sight and/or smell that does not give negative bias has been eaten first.

2. A challenge can only be made against the same individual or group after 15 minutes. Both the party initiating and the party receiving the challenge share a timer. This includes gore challenges between carnivores.
a. For challenges within a group, the timer counts for the individuals involved.
b. For challenges against those outside of the group, the timer counts for the entire group.
c. The challenge timer is separate from the hunting timer.

3. To end a challenge, a 2, 4, or 5-call must be made where the loser should back down or risk being killed. A party who leaves line of sight of the challenge or their opponents also forfeits a challenge. A gore drop will also end a challenge.
a. If the loser refuses to move away from the area, or returns to the area, the winner may attempt to kill them. The winner cannot chase if the loser is making an effort to run away.
b. Any Mosa call ends a challenge.
c. Bullfights, or challenges for mating rights, are ended by a 4 or 5 call. If the species has no 4 or 5-call, a 2-call will end the bullfight.

4. Once a challenge over claimed gore has been made, neither party should move the gore for an advantage in combat; ie., making it reachable/unreachable or outside of their environment.

a. Scavengers stealing scraps do not have to stop or drop their stolen scraps if 3-called.
b. If the challenger(s) already has one claimed gore, they cannot challenge for another until it is finished or spoiled.

1. Only an attack or offensive ability (such as an acro Z ability) towards a target will initiate a hunt, regardless of whether it lands as long as a miss is within one body length of the hunter from the target. A hunt only ends after a 2/4/5 call is made by one of the predators in the hunting party, a hunter intentionally leaves line of sight or moves out of reach to sit/lie down (except for terrestrial vs aquatic), when a gore has dropped, the hunted party escapes into a burrow where the hunter cannot fit, one of the hunters has entered a sleeping animation, or if the fleeing prey outruns the predator and escapes out of render distance. For carnivores hunting carnivores, both parties must 2/4/5 call or leave line of sight.

a. Any unclaimed and reachable red gore around, visible by sight and/or smell, must be eaten first before any hunts can be initiated. You do not have to stay with or claim a spawn/non-satiation gore if you eat from it, but must eat all unclaimed red gores visible by sight and/or smell before hunting. Only unclaimed, red player gores stop ongoing hunts.
b. If the gore is unreachable to the carnivore in the area, or outside of a carnivore's environment (Aquatic/Terrestrial), a hunt can be made. Aerials only need to grab gore in shallow water or on land.
c. Scavengers and Baby Snatchers can force a dinosaur to drop a carried object or hatchling/juvie with a bite without initiating a hunt on the bitten target.
d. Any Mosa call ends a hunt.
e. A group may only snatch one egg at a time. Successfully stealing an egg does not start a hunting timer, but it must be fully eaten before grabbing another egg. A guarded nest where at least one parent is within LOS of the nest may only be snatched from if there is no red gore nearby.
f. Challenges may turn into hunts and vice versa so long as the requirements to initiate a legal hunt or challenge are met as the two timers are separate.

2. Carnivores, Omnivores, and Piscivores within open, clear LOS of a hunt on herbivores must challenge for the right to hunt the prey or else forfeit their right to challenge for the body. Reasonably hidden creatures waiting for an opportunity are exempt, such as Icthys under the surface of water.
a. In carnivore vs carnivore hunts and challenges, other carnivores cannot actively hunt one of the parties involved until after the hunt or challenge concludes.

3. Once the hunt ends, the predator(s) must follow a hunting timer and cannot hunt or follow the group that was within line of sight of the start of the hunt again until after 15 minutes. For mixed herds, this only applies to the species which the hunt was initiated on. Herbivore vs Carnivore

4. Herbivores may use other herbivores as “meat-shields” as long as the species size is larger than their own within profile. Meatshielding is defined as using a larger dinosaur to body block a hunter. This larger dinosaur cannot actively protect you.

a. Hatchlings and Juveniles can always meat-shield from their own species, however they themselves cannot be meat-shielded by different species of the same size class or different species of smaller size class.

5. Cannibalism is allowed situationally for carnivores. Aloof carnivores may only target obviously injured (limping) or younger individuals, Solitary carnivores are able to freely cannibalize, and Social carnivores may only cannibalize hatchlings, juveniles, and adolescents outside their pack. Certain profiles have exceptions which are allowed.

6. Animals classed as terrestrial or aquatic who are out of their natural environment are considered vulnerable. Animals can hunt outside their natural environment at their own risk.

a. While vulnerable in the ocean, Terrestrials can be hunted by Aquatics despite nearby spawn gores and regardless of schedule. b. While vulnerable on land, Aquatics can be hunted by Terrestrials despite nearby spawn gores and regardless of schedule.

IMPORTANT: For all cases of the rules above:
Gore: includes meat, drumsticks and broken eggs.
Mate: Another member of your species of the opposite sex with whom you have posted your most recent nesting post. Note: if a profile or rule states anything else, such as “partner”, a nesting post is not required to fit this category.
Group: The in-game group formed by players in the BoB system.
